Houston, Texas, February 19, 2025. Imubit and Preem, Sweden's largest fuel company, have entered a partnership to apply Imubit's closed-loop optimization to the fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit at Preem's Lysekil refinery. The partnership reflects Preem's commitment to data-driven solutions that reduce emissions and increase operational efficiency, as part of Sweden's drive toward a carbon-neutral future.

Preem's emissions target

Preem has set a goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions throughout its value chain by 2035. Digitalization for increased profitability is one of the main areas of Preem's strategy for reaching it, and the work with Imubit is a step in that direction.

Closed-loop optimization on the Lysekil FCC

Imubit's Deep Learning Process Control® (DLPC®) will help the Lysekil refinery maximize the production efficiency of its FCC unit. DLPC® learns a nonlinear dynamic model of the unit from its own operating history, guided by first principles. A controller trained by reinforcement learning then writes targets to the existing APC or DCS minute by minute, inside limits set by plant engineers.

The work is also expected to reduce emissions and save fuel by improving the unit's yield profile and stabilizing the refinery's fuel gas balance.

Working with Imubit allows us to leverage cutting-edge AI to optimize our renewable processes while minimizing our carbon footprint. This collaboration is an important step toward a more sustainable future for our industry.

Erika Wikström, SVP of Technology, Preem

Closed-loop optimization of the FCC adds to Preem's existing plans to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and to support the energy transition in Europe.

About Imubit

Imubit brings Closed-Loop Physical AI to refining, chemicals and polymers, cement, and mining and minerals. The Imubit Platform maps plan-to-plant gaps to the recurring decisions behind them, models the causality with DLPC®, and takes the critical decisions to autonomous execution, inside limits set by plant engineers, on top of APC and DCS. Imubit is trusted by 7 of the top 10 U.S. refiners. The company was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Where to start

Find out what your gap to plan is costing you.

  • One to two hours for your team to prepare and upload the data package

  • Results within a few working days of approval

  • No workshops

Send your data as it is. Gaps, outages and noisy tags are normal, and our engineers screen and clean them in the platform. If anything limits a use case, we tell you.
